Get to know the extract
Botanical ingredients vary by plant species, plant part, extraction method and concentration. Two products displaying the same common plant name may contain different preparations.
Read the identity and amount
Look for the botanical name, the plant part and the amount per labelled serving. A raw-material specification describes that material; it is not automatically the composition of the complete capsule.
Connect the study to the ingredient
Check which extract and dose were studied, in whom, for how long and with which outcomes. An absorption study answers a different question from a clinical study of symptoms or quality of life.
Check personal suitability
Herbal ingredients can interact with medicines and may be unsuitable during pregnancy, breastfeeding or some health conditions. Share the complete ingredient panel with your doctor or pharmacist.
