Functional Medicine Guide 03

Sleep, light and circadian health

Build a repeatable rhythm and know when a sleep concern needs professional assessment.

Rhythm before rescue

Sleep is shaped by timing, light, behavior, health conditions and environment.

A functional assessment looks beyond hours in bed: schedule regularity, morning and evening light, caffeine and alcohol, movement, stress, pain, breathing, medications and the bedroom environment can all matter. Snoring, witnessed breathing pauses, severe daytime sleepiness and persistent insomnia warrant clinical evaluation.

1

Anchor wake time

A consistent wake time helps stabilize the sleep-wake rhythm.

2

Use light deliberately

Seek daytime light and reduce bright light close to bedtime when possible.

3

Build a downshift

Create a repeatable transition with lower stimulation, a calm environment and fewer late stimulants.

4

Escalate red flags

Do not use supplements to mask possible sleep apnea, mood disorders or medication effects.

BubbForest connection

GABA + Magnesium Glycinate

This evening-routine formula includes GABA, L-theanine, magnesium, ashwagandha and vitamin C. Evidence for oral GABA is limited and mixed; L-theanine research is more promising but varies by dose. It is not an insomnia or anxiety treatment.
